Game situations

One or more free throws there, if a player of the opponent commits a personal or unsportsmanlike foul, or when players, substitutes, coaches or team followers commit a technical or disqualifying foul.

Restriction on personal fouls

Free throws there in a personal foul only when a player is fouled in the act, or throw the train to the basket, or if the team foul limit, ie, all committed by one team in the same quarter fouls, has been exceeded. This limit is in Germany and games, the FIBA five fouls in the NBA with six fouls per quarter. In offensive fouls, so a player's ball leading team fouls, no free throws are executed.

Number of free throws

The number of free throws depends on the underlying action:

  • If a player is fouled in a basket or action on a roll and the ball goes in the basket, so count the points and the player also receives a free throw. This is also true for unsportsmanlike or disqualifying fouls, which occur in a basket or a throwing action.
  • If a player is fouled in a basket or action on a roll and the ball does not go in the basket, so the player gets two or three free throws, depending on how many points the union would have achieved. A normal basket would therefore two free throws, a three-point throw three free throws result.
  • For technical fouls there are always two free throws ( FIBA ) or a (NBA).

Determination of the free thrower

For personal and unsportsmanlike fouls the fouled player must make the free throws. If this is not possible due to an injury, his replacement player performs the free throws. When a technical foul, the fouled team can decide which player will perform the free throws.
