Fréteval
Fréteval is a commune with 1121 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Loir -et -Cher in the Centre region; it belongs to the district Vendôme and the Canton Morée.
History
On July 3, 1194 Richard the Lionheart destroyed after a win against Philip Augustus in the battle of Fréteval the royal archives that Philip had left on his flight, including the tax lists. This loss is considered as a trigger for the establishment of the Archives nationales in Paris.
