Friedel Holz

Friedel wood (* February 21, 1920, † April 9, 1941 in Crete ) was a German footballer. During World War II he was drafted and died in fighting around the Greek island of Crete.

Wooden rose in 1937 in the squad 's first team TuS Duisburg 48/99 (until 1938: Duisburg TSV 1899) on. Previously, he was already playing in their reserve team. For the TuS wood went into the Gauliga Niederrhein hunting for goals, but without having significant successes or to qualify for the German championship. After the outbreak of the war in late 1939 he had to give up playing football and was henceforth the Army.

National

Wood denied on March 20, 1938 in a 2-1 over Luxembourg his only game for Germany. At that time he was tested by national coach Sepp Herberger as an alternative for Joseph Fath. Herberger became aware of wood when he was playing with a junior team selection against Oberhausen city selection. During the meeting, he was brought on at half-time and scored two goals. The game ended 10-0. In the list of recent international timber filled with 18 years and 27 days in fourth place behind Willy Baumgartner, Marius Hiller and Uwe Seeler.
