Friedrich Bezold

Friedrich Bezold ( born February 9, 1842 in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, † October 5, 1908 in Munich) was a German physician in the field of ear, nose and throat medicine.

Life

Bezold studied from 1860 to 1866 in Munich, Erlangen and Würzburg medicine. He then settled in Munich. In 1877 he became a professor in Otology ( Otolaryngology ). From 1878, he headed the otiatrische outpatient clinic at the University of Munich. He became an associate in 1886 and 1906 full professor. He also bore the title of Privy Councillor.

Bezold published many papers in his field. His hearing tests with tuning forks and its efforts to improve the education of the hearing impaired were known.

  • The Bezold 's abscess ( Bezold - mastoiditis ), an abscess through the mastoid ( mastoid process ) of the temporal bone in the sternocleidomastoid muscle, a rare complication of acute otitis media

  • The Bezold 's triad with otosclerosis (Repeal of hearing for low tones, slowed bone conduction, negative result of the gutter - test ) and
  • The Bezold - Edelmann - scale ( according to Max Thomas Edelmann, 1845-1913, German engineer), a set of tuning forks, pipes and monochords, with all audible pitches can be produced.
