Friedrich Bleek

Friedrich Bleek ( born July 4, 1793 in Ahrensbok, † February 27, 1859 in Bonn ) was a German theologian and one of the most important biblical scholars of his time. He was the father of the linguist Wilhelm Heinrich Immanuel Bleek.

Life

Born in Ahrensbok in Lübeck, the son of a notary and businessman, Frederick attended the elementary school and learned in 1804 alongside Latin and Greek, so that he was able to Easter 1812 visit the prima of the Lübeck Katharineum of 1809.

In 1812 he entered the University of Kiel, a study of Protestant theology and philosophy, where he listened with eagerness mathematics and philology. In 1814 he moved to Berlin, heard three years of theology in Schleiermacher, De Wette and Leander and made in Schleswig Glücksburg and his theological examinations. In 1821 he received his doctorate in Wroclaw, around shortly after his habilitation in the same year, in Berlin. Immediately after he was appointed to the University of Berlin to associate professor. In 1829 he was appointed professor at the Bonn alma mater and remained there for 30 years as a member of the faculty. In 1843 he was appointed to the consistory.

Friedrich Bleeks eldest son was the linguist Wilhelm Heinrich Immanuel Bleek. Friedrich Bleek passed away on February 27, 1859 suddenly of a stroke in his apartment in Bonn. He was an outstanding scholar and exegete and a leading exponent of the Bible science of his time.

The political scientist Wilhelm Bleek is a great-grandson of Friedrich Bleek.
