The Epistle of Paul to the Ephesians is a book of the New Testament of the Christian Bible. It is divided into six chapters since the Middle Ages.

Author and recipient

The biblical book proves to be a circular letter of Paul from his first imprisonment in Rome to the church at Ephesus. Paul had been three years in Ephesus and founder of the local Christian community.

In the historical-critical exegesis is directed mainly to the fact that the text was more of a condensed in the form of letters sermon. The original addressee is unclear and the authorship of Paul rather unlikely. Overall a lie against the genuine Pauline letters -established community with form now clearly emerging ministerial structures (cf. the statements about the charisms and the change in the body of Christ image ) ago. The letter had been written about 70-90 AD. A few commentators ( Schlier and M. Barth ) of the second half of the 20th century find the reasons not necessarily to deny the letter Paul. Both content and theologically to blanket their opinion of the Ephesians with the other Pauline letters. There was nothing to be dated around the year 60 - 62 would Paul have written the letter, then from the Roman captivity.
