Friedrich Domin

Friedrich Domin ( born May 15, 1902 in Bytom, Upper Silesia, † December 18, 1961 in Munich) was a German actor and theater director.

Life and work

The son of a gardener studied at the Bauhaus under Walter Gropius architecture, but decided in 1921 to the acting profession. After training at the Berlin Reinhardt-Seminar he gave in November 1921, his debut in a performance of Gerhart Hauptmann's Michael Kramer in the Theater at the Berlin Kopenickerstrasse. Further engagements followed in 1924 in Königsberg, 1926 in Zurich, in 1927 in Gera ( with Walter Bruno Iltz ) and in 1928 in Kassel. From 1934 until his death, he was part of the ensemble of the Munich Studio Theater. He appeared as a character actor in various roles of the classical and modern theater. In addition, he also served as a director since 1936.

Since 1939, Friedrich Domin also took film roles. He was subscribed to awe-inspiring notables, such as a prison director in The Captain from Köpenick, General in A girl from Flanders, Ringmaster in Lola Montez, Commerce in Rose Monday banker in The Trapp Family, Count Egge in Schloß Hubertus, Chancellor Bismarck in Ludwig II - splendor and misery of a king, Hindenburg in Sauerbruch - That was my life, or as a bishop in the Father Brown Crime the black sheep.

Friedrich Domin is buried in the cemetery Bogenhausener in Munich.
