San Salvatore is a literary adaptation by Werner Jacobs from the year 1955. It was created based on the novel by Hans Kadesh.

Content

In the hospital, Collina d'Oro at Lake Lugano at the foot of Mount San Salvatore from Hamburg Dagmar Gerken for three years hopes to complete healing of their lung disease. Two new doctors arrive at the Sanatorium: The surgeon Dr. Robert Kant and Dr. Manfred Carrell to assist in the development of new treatment methods. Both have been friends for a long time.

On a walk Dagmar is bitten by a viper. Robert, who coincidentally staying in the area, taking care of them. Both fall in love. While Dagmar however soon able to leave the sanatorium, Kant decides to stay for five years in Collina d' Oro and conduct research. The disappointed Dagmar departs without him and is accompanied by Manfred Carrell, who helps her with her first steps in the everyday life. Both are a couple and get married. Manfred begins in Munich to work as a surgeon and neglected Dagmar increasingly. He begins an affair with Catherine Hallberg and Dagmar, who finds out about it, concealing him injured her pregnancy.

Robert appears in Munich, where he wants to present to Congress a new surgical methods. He also meets up with Dagmar and realizes how unhappy she is and how much he still loves her. At the congress there will be a scientific dispute about Roberts new surgical methods, with Manfred faces his former friend. When Robert Manfred confronts later because of his affair with Catherine, Manfred forbids any interference.

Manfred's sister Trude succeed in an interview to convince Catherine to renounce Manfred. When Manfred is his sister mad to talk, Dagmar is involuntary listener. She realizes that she means nothing more Manfred, and faints. As a result, she loses her unborn child and her lung disease continues. Although Manfred wants to make amends for his behavior, Dagmar rejects it now. She returns to Lugano, where Robert saves her with his new method of operation life. Dagmar and Robert are ready to start a life together.

Production

The interior shots were held in Munich- Geiselgasteig and Hamburg. Each operation uses scenes was filmed in Munich Charité, Charité - where doctors assisted in scenes. The exterior shots were filmed in Lugano. The world premiere of San Salvatore was held in Lichtenburg in Essen on 9 March 1956.

Criticism

The contemporary criticism was that Dieter Borsche would have found back as Dr. Kant in San Salvatore " for its own customs Rigid ": " The situations are far worse ... against nature than the dialogues. "

The lexicon of the International film called San Salvatore as " unrealistic, Zauberberg' - waste " in which " sentimentality and sadness " would prevail.
