Friedrich Eduard Eichens

Friedrich Eduard Eichen ( born May 27, 1804 in Berlin, † May 5, 1877 ) was a German engraver.

Career

At the Art Academy was, inter alia, his hometown Eichens Student of Ludwig Horn Book. Through the support of his teacher went Eichens later for some time to Paris in order to attend the École des Beaux- Arts ( modern painting ) and the Louvre ( the old master ) study.

After calibrating went to Italy and became a pupil of Paolo Toschi in Parma. After his return to Eichens left as a freelance artists settled in Berlin. It was later appointed as Professor of engraving with a teaching position at the Academy of Art.

Three weeks before his 73rd birthday Friedrich Eduard Eichen died on 5 May 1877 in Berlin.

Artistic work

Eichens created mainly portraits of famous contemporaries, partly by templates such as the more powerful steel engraving, which he designed in 1845 for the complete works of Friedrich von Hardenberg ( Novalis ).

In addition, he often also addressed religious and historical themes. Inter alia He created several sheets by Wilhelm von Kaulbach's frescoes in the Neues Museum in Berlin, and from whose Shakespeare Gallery.
