Paolo Toschi

Paolo Toschi ( born June 7, 1788 in Parma, † 30 July 1854 in Parma) was Italian engraver.

Paolo Toschi went to Paris and became a pupil of the painter Charles Clément Bervic. On the occasion of an exhibition he was with his copper engraving Entry of Henry IV into Paris ( after a painting by François Gérard ) first announced to the public.

In his work, in which Toschi oriented to come back to the old masters, include the Cross by Raphael and the Descent from the Cross by Daniele da Volterra emphasized. Both sheets are considered masterpieces of engraving his time.

1819 Toschi returned back to his hometown, where he became director of the Academy of Fine Arts, which he organized new. By the end of his life Toschi had held this position and taught there also. One of his students was Friedrich Eduard Eichen.
