Friedrich Gumpert

Adolph Friedrich Gumpert (* April 27, 1841 in Lichtenau ( Thuringia), † December 31, 1906 in Leipzig ) was a German horn player and professor at the Conservatory in Leipzig.

Gumpert was one of the outstanding horn player of his time. He was from 1864 to 1899 principal horn in the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig. In 1896 he was co-founder of the Gewandhaus Wind Quintet. Together with the company Kruspe Erfurt developed the horn model " Gumpert ".

A great importance was Gumpert as a teacher. He was from 1882 to 1906 professor of horn at the Conservatory of Leipzig. During this time he had numerous students who major horn players were even. Among these were Anton Horner, Max Hess, Heinrich laurel and Max Pottag later a great influence on the development of the horn playing in the United States. From Gumpert numerous music editions were published, including a horn school and a number of orchestral studies for horn. Usually he is called on these issues " Gumbert ", a deliberately misspelling. So he was in fact confused with the famous composer Ferdinand Gumbert what he was not wrong.
