Friedrich Gustav Carl Emil Erlenmeyer

Friedrich Gustav Karl Emil Erlenmeyer, called Emil, (* July 14, 1864 in Heidelberg, † February 14, 1921 in Berlin) was a German chemist (organic chemistry).

He was the son of a chemist Emil Erlenmeyer, and also released as his father as " Emil Erlenmeyer jun. ". He went to Munich to school and studied in Heidelberg, Bonn, Frankfurt am Main, Darmstadt and Marburg. In 1888 he received his doctorate at the University of Göttingen ( to knowledge of the phenyl -alpha and phenyl -alpha -beta- oxypropionic ). In 1891 he habilitated in Bonn and from 1893 he taught at the University of Strasbourg in 1896 as an associate professor. In 1907 he went as a council of Biological Imperial Institute in Berlin -Dahlem, where he remained until his death.

He conducted research on organic acids and published about 90 scientific papers. In 1893 he published the Erlenmeyer synthesis.

He was the father of the chemist Hans Friedrich Albrecht Erlenmeyer (1900-1967), Professor of Inorganic Chemistry in Basel was.
