Friedrich Hauser

Friedrich Hauser ( * 1859 in Stuttgart, † February 20, 1917 in Baden -Baden ) was a German classical archaeologist.

Life

Friedrich Hauser studied Classical Archaeology at the University of Strasbourg and was under Adolf Michaelis with the dissertation The newly - Attic reliefs doctorate ( printed Stuttgart 1889). For the year 1890/1891 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute. Hauser spent his life as a private scholar in Rome. After the outbreak of the First World War, he fled shortly before the war, Italy's entry for Christmas 1914 in the home, and died there a few years later in the spa town of Baden -Baden.

Hauser's research on classical sculpture and vase painting meant great progress for the archeology of the 20th century. His biographer Werner Fuchs writes about his publications: " Even when he is wrong, his error is often more revealing than some correct assertions of others."
