Franz Friedrich Ludwig Freiherr von Wangen- Geroldseck ( born March 12, 1727 Wilwisheim, † October 11, 1782 in Pruntrut ) was from 1775 to 1782 Prince-Bishop of Basel.

Life

He was born the son of Johann Ludwig Albrecht von Wangen- Geroldseck and Maria Anna Katharina von Schauenburg. His father was a counselor of the unterelsässischen knighthood Board.

As is usual for the elite of the prince-bishopric, he began his education at the Jesuit College in Pruntrut. He then studied at the universities of Strasbourg, Rome and Paris. In 1745 he was canon to Arlesheim and 1751 Kapitular. Other offices in the cathedral chapter followed ( curator; archdeacon; Kantor ). In 1766 he was ordained a priest. In 1775 he was elected bishop in 1776 and consecrated bishop.

In his brief tenure of the Prince-Bishop completed two main contracts.
