Friedrich Ludwig Meissner

Friedrich Ludwig Meissner ( born August 25, 1796 in Leipzig, † December 4, 1860 in Dresden) was a German physician with an emphasis on obstetrics, women's and children's diseases.

Life

Meissner studied in his hometown of medicine. 1819 he obtained his PhD (title of doctor's thesis: Animadversiones nonnullas ad doctrinam de secundinis ac de superfoetatione ), starting in the summer term of 1821 he taught at the University of Leipzig. In 1831 he qualified as a professor of obstetrics and diseases of women. In 1838 he founded an obstetric clinic. He was a member since 1820 at the Leipzig Apollo Masonic Lodge, where he was from 1835 to 1851 Master of the chair.
