Friedrich von Lucanus

Friedrich Karl Hermann von Lucanus ( born June 20, 1869 in Berlin, † February 18, 1947 in Buschow ) was a German career soldier ( Lieutenant Colonel, hc ), ornithologist, animal psychologist, and author of popular science books animal. ( " Lucanus " is a scholarly Latinization of the family name Lauck in the 16th century )

He was the son of Hermann von Lucanus, lived in Berlin and dealt especially with the birds and bird migration. In 1904 he published ( after a lecture at the 5th International Congress of Zoologists in 1901 in Berlin) " The height of bird migration and its direction to the wind due to aeronautical observations ". Large dissemination was " Under the spell of animal life" that identified him as a responsible sportsman. His son Hermann von Lucanus continued the work of Lucanus, especially about birds of prey, to some extent.

Lucanus was from 1921 to 1926 chairman of the German Ornithological Society, and from 1923 Corresponding Fellow of the American Ornithologists ' Union.
