Friedrich von Westhoff

Friedrich von Westhoff (* 1611 in Lübeck ();? † 1694 probably in Dresden ) was a German captain, lutenist and trombonist.

Life

Westhoff was captain in the service of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. From Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony he was first employed at the Dresden court orchestra as a chamber musician as a lutenist, he later switched to trombone. His position in the court chapel he had until the reign of John George III. (1680-1691) held. Westhoff was the father of the composer and violinist Johann Paul von Westhoff.
