Friedrich Wilhelm Jähns

Friedrich Wilhelm Jähns ( born January 2, 1809 in Berlin, † August 8, 1888 ) was a German singing teacher, composer and writer on music and Prussian royal music director.

Jähns joined in his youth on a private stage in Berlin, gave the theater career but later on, in order to devote herself to singing lessons. From his success in this area reflects the number of his pupils, of which he has trained more than 900, including the Princess Louise of Prussia. In the years 1828-1838 he was a singer in the Sing- Akademie zu Berlin. Also known as a conductor, he proved himself in numerous performances of 1845 he founded and headed until 1870 Choir Choral Society.

Meanwhile, he was creatively active on almost all areas of composition and found especially with his vocal works generally applause.

As a writer, he published: Carl Maria von Weber in his works, chronological and thematic directory of all his compositions, and Carl Maria von Weber: Biographical sketch from authentic sources (Leipzig 1873).

Jähns lies in the cemetery I of Jerusalem and the New Church in Berlin buried.
