Friendship paradox

The Freundschaftsparadox was first observed in 1991 by sociologist Scott Lauren field. It describes the phenomenon that almost every person only has friends who have more friends than they do

Notwithstanding the apparent paradoxical origin, the phenomenon is real and can be a consequence of general mathematical properties of graphs of social networks are explained. However, it may also be the cause of numerous social misunderstandings.

The Freundschaftsparadox can be explained by the fact that people prefer to become friends with people who have more friends than with those who have less.

This finding is a possible way to predict the course of epidemics.
