Froðba

Froðba [ fɹo ː ba] (Danish: Frodebø ) is a suburb of Tvøroyri on Suðuroy in the south of the Faroe Islands

Froðba is located at the far end of the Trongisvágsfjørður on its northern shore and the east coast of Suðuroy. Today it has grown together with the neighboring Tvøroyri. According to legend, Froðba to be the oldest settlement on the South Island. Here, once the legendary King Frode should have settled. In the field of community Froðba is the park Viðarlundin við Tvøroyrar kirkju.

In Froðba there are interesting columnar basalt formations. A small road leads to the 324 meter high Cape Frobiarnípa. From here one has a good view and can also climb into a cave called Hol í Hellu. On the way there are visible coal reserves. These are testimonies of a forest that was covered by lava 50 million years ago.

Lived over half a century and worked here the poet Poul F. Joensen, who was initially local village teacher, but then preferred the common man 's life.
