Fructuoso Rivera

José Fructuoso Rivera y Toscana ( born October 17, 1784 in Montevideo, † January 13, 1854 in Melo ) was an Uruguayan general and politician.

He fought against the Brazilians and this eventually drove sales. August 28, 1829 to April 30, 1830 he took the position of defense minister of Uruguay. From 6 November 1830 to 24 October 1834, he was the first president of Uruguay. He was also the founder of the Colorado Party. In 1839 he was elected for the second time as president and held that post until 1843. He also was part of the triumvirate that ruled Uruguay provisionally 1853-1854.
