Frutolf of Michelsberg

Frutolf by Michel Berg ( * unknown; † January 17, 1103 ) was a monk and priest in Michel mountain monastery in Bamberg, whose Prior, he was at times. He probably came from Bavaria.

Frutolf may have been active as a teacher of the quadrivium in the monastery, but especially as a librarian and writer. In this capacity, he provided for a substantial expansion of Michel Berger library collection. Some of the copied works by him are still preserved.

Even as the author of his own works, he entered appearance: The World Chronicle ( Chronica ) Frutolfs regarded as comprehensive and bestgeordnete chronology of the early Middle Ages. It ranges from the creation to 1099 and has been edited and continued by Frutolfs death of Ekkehard of Aura. In addition comes a " Breviarium de musica " almost certainly from Frutolfs spring, a " Liber de Officiis divinis " as well as a guide to a board game with stones number to be assigned, however, not unique Frutolf.
