Frøydis Ree Wekre

Frøydis Ree Wekre ( born July 3, 1941 in Oslo) is a Norwegian horn player and professor at a music school.

Life

The daughter of a pianist and an amateur violinist learned very early on to make music on the piano and the violin. Only at the age of 17 she picked up the horn and studied this instrument in Sweden, Russia and the United States. Teachers were William Lanzky gasoline and Vitali Bujanowskij.

In 1961 she received her first engagement at the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. From 1965 to 1990 she was principal horn in the orchestra, as well as to the Norwegian Opera.

Since 1991 she is professor of horn and brass chamber music at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. She also gives master classes in Europe and North America. She is the author of the book Thoughts on Playing the Horn Well, that has been translated into several languages. Several composers have written works for woman Wekre, so among other things Sigurd mountains the work Hornlokk and Trygve Madsen a horn sonata. The Horn Concerto Op 49 by Wolfgang Plagge 's 1990 is also dedicated to her.

Woman Wekre was two years president of the International Horn Society for their honorary member, she was appointed.
