FS Class ALe 801/940

The trains of the ALe 801 and 940 of the Italian Ferrovie dello ALe Stato series are four -piece electric trains that were designed in the 1970s for local transport. You prescriptions shall be as a development of the earlier ALe 803

The ALe 801 and 940 are identical in construction ALe. The ALe 801 have 80 seats with a luggage space that ALe 940 have 94 seats without luggage space. The Le 108 have 108 seats.

History

After the construction of multiple units of the series ALe 803, the Ferrovie dello Stato ordered a new series that were based on the same mechanics, and had a more modern electrical equipment.

September 1973, the first 25 four -car trains were ordered that were delivered from 1975 to 1977. May 1975 came the appointment of a second item of 40 trains were equipped with Scharfenberg couplers and came into operation from 1976 to 1979.

The ALe 801 and 940 ALe served for suburban services in the major railway junctions of Genoa, Milan, Rome, Turin and Venice. Today they are still in use.

Paintwork

Originally ALe 801 and ALe 940 in Orange and Yellow Colorado ( " Colorado Giallo " ) were painted. In the late 1990s she received usual for the FS XMPR finish.
