FS Class D.445

The series D.445 is a diesel locomotive class the Italian state railways Ferrovie dello Stato (FS ). Between 1974 and 1988 a total of 150 aircraft were built in three series.

The vehicles are used today on the Italian mainland and on the island of Sardinia mainly before passenger trains.

Construction series

First production series

The very first series of the D.445 series includes 35 vehicles, numbered 1001 to 1035. Locomotives possessed, unlike the other two model series still curved windows and no shuttle train.

Second production run

The second type series comprises 20 vehicles with numbers from 1036 to 1055. Unlike the first production run, the second production run has a push-pull train and no curved window panes.

Third production series

The third is a total of 95 vehicles were put into service, the largest production run of FS D.445. The vehicles have the car numbers obtained from 1056 to 1150 and have, as well as the second batch, a shuttle train and flat windshields. Moreover, the third production series has five instead of the usual for the other two model series three lights on each cab.
