FS Class E.428
The series E.428 is an Italian electric locomotive.
History
In 1938 the electrification of the Rome- Milan was completed. The travel time was beginning an hour and 27 minutes. There was a need for new, more powerful electric locomotives. The E.428 series could meet these requirements. A total of 242 specimens of this series were produced. The series was intended as a further development of the E.428 E.326 and best suited.
Technical Features
The machines showed the wheel arrangement 2BoBo2 on - not as the previously standardized wheel arrangement 2D2. Thus, the Kurvenläufigkeit of locomotives has been improved. E series 428 has eight motors, which are coupled to sets of two motors. There were three different versions, which only differed in appearance:
- 001-122: a central structure with two stems " Avancorpi "
- 123-203: closed structure and staggered forward cab "semi- Aerodinamica "
- 204-242: front panel and body into an aerodynamic shape connected " Aerodinamica "
