The E.550 series was an electric locomotive series of Ferrovie dello Stato Italian state railway.

History

The E.550 series was designed for hauling heavy trains on steep inclines. She was the first electric locomotive, which was completely made in Italy. From 1908, a total of 186 units were built in five different versions. Mostly carried two E.550er a 380 -ton freight train at a speed of 50 km / h
