FS Class E.636

The E.636 series is an Italian electric locomotive series.

History

Between 1940 and 1962 a total of 469 copies of the E.636 locomotives were purchased. This series was designed for passenger and freight service. The design with zweigeteiltem locomotive body and wheel arrangement Bo'Bo'Bo ' was so successful that this axle assembly was fixed to the Italian State Railways as a standard. With the exception of E.444, the entire fleet was composed of electromechanical locomotives of the Italian State Railways on the basic scheme of the E.636. The last successor was the E.656 series, which was delivered until 1989.
