Fuchs spot

The fox - spot, named after the ophthalmologist Ernst Fuchs, is a black spot in the macula by overgrowth of Pigmentephitels.

Description

The fox dot is an eye disease caused by severe myopia. As a result of stretching operations, there is bleeding in the retina, often with sub-retinal neovascularisation. The result is a loss of visual acuity.

Symptoms

The symptoms resemble those of macular degeneration. First symptom is a phenomenon that vertical or horizontal lines are no longer straight but wavy perceived. Only after a few days or even weeks appears at the point a black spot, which hinders the vision. With progressive scarring may occur to a complete cure. The scar is detectable in the case only at a funduscopic examination.

In the case of a pigmented scar visual acuity remains impaired.

Treatment

So far, no causal treatment is known. If it comes to the formation of new blood vessels, can be treated with photodynamic therapy or medications are given in the eye, which inhibit the formation of new vessels. But it can also lead to spontaneous regression of these blood vessels.
