Fuji FA-200 Aero Subaru

The Fuji FA -200 was the first entirely developed by Japan 4- seater light aircraft went into series production and was intended primarily for export.

History and construction

The aircraft was the product of a merger of Fuji Heavy Industries ( six different companies including Hikoki Nakajima, a Japanese aircraft manufacturer during World War II ). The design work began in 1964, a prototype, the FA -200 -II, first flew on 12 August 1965. The basic version of the FA -200 should serve as the basis for a light 4- seater touring aircraft, a two -seat training aircraft, as well as a single-seat agricultural aircraft.

However, only the 4- seater touring aircraft reached the production stage. The FA -200 is a conventional low-wing monoplane with fixed landing gear and aerobatic capability. An interesting feature is that the FA -200 can be flown with an open pulpit in normal cruise flight. In aerobatics, it is only to be filled by two people.

3 versions of the FA -200 went into series production. The FA -200-160 (4- seater ) with a 160 hp Lycoming engine, the FA -200 -180 ( also 4-seater ) with a 180 -hp injection engine from Lycoming and the FA -200 180AO. The latter was a stripped-down version of the FA -200 180 having a rigid propeller and carburetor engine.

Until 1977 274 Fuji FA -200 were built until 1986 another 25 units were produced through special orders.

Friends and owner of this aircraft are assembled in Germany eV within the Fuji Club Germany to keep aircraft airworthy in the long term.
