Fujiwara no Kamatari

Fujiwara no Kamatari (Japanese藤原 镰 足; * 614, † 669 ) was the founder of the influential clans of the Fujiwara in Japan. He came from the Nakatomi family and was the son of Nakatomi no Mikeko, his birth name was therefore Nakatomi no Kamatari (中 臣 镰 足). He was named Fujiwara shortly before the death of Emperor Tenji.

He was a friend and supporter of Prince Kuni no Ōe, later Emperor Tenji. 645 organized the Prince and Kamatari a coup ( Isshi Incident ), during which they Soga no Iruka killed, the great influence had obtained on Empress Kogyoku.

Kamatari supported the Emperor his life, the Emperor gave him the highest rank Taishokukan and a new clan name, Fujiwara, as a tribute.

His son was Fujiwara no Fuhito (or Fubito ).
