Fukushima-ku, Osaka

Fukushima -ku (Japanese福岛 区) is one of 24 districts ( ku ) of Osaka, Japan. The district is primarily a residential area, but also includes some office building, a business district and several industrial companies. The Yodo River forms the northern and the southern boundary of the district Dojima.

History

The municipality was created on 1 April 1943, parts of Kita- ku, Konohana -ku -ku and Nishiyodogawa. On September 1, 1975, the districts were reorganized within the district. You are today: Ebie (海 老江), Fukushima (福岛), Noda (野 田), Ōhiraki (大 开), Sagisu (鹭 洲), Tamagawa (玉川) and Yoshino (吉野).

The district Fukushima was a farming village near the city during the Edo period. In the Meiji period large factories were built, especially in the textile industry. The Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. was founded here in 1918. Even today, many working printers and automotive suppliers in this district. Before the Second World War, it served the University Hospital and the Central Market of Osaka.

In recent years, several new high-rise apartment houses and office buildings were built, due to the proximity to the Umeda and Dojima - business centers. Other parts of Fukushima have been converted from factory premises in residential and business district. Among other things, was built on the site of the former University Hospital of residential and office complex Hotarumachi.
