Umeda

Umeda (Japanese梅田) is a commercial and business district with many hotels and office buildings in the urban district of Kita Osaka, Japan. Umeda is synonymous with the cities of Osaka with many high-rise buildings, including 40 skyscrapers. In Umeda is located in Osaka and Umeda stations with trains to the northern hub of Osaka and the biggest shopping centers in Osaka ( Osaka Diamor and the department stores of Daimaru, Hankyu Hanshin and ).

The district Umeda in the narrower sense, that is, the zone, which is also called the address of Umeda, Osaka train station only covers the southeast, areas and is divided into 3 Chome. In a broader sense also the surrounding neighborhoods are counted to Umeda.

Name

The name of the district translates to " ume field ". However Originally, the name derives from " backfill field " (埋 田), because the district was originally an area intensively agriculturally used. With construction of the train network in the 1870s the entire area was filled in and the county grew rapidly. There could never be fully understood and generally accepted, which is why the kanji changed, and thus led to the shift in meaning.
