Furiant

The Furiant ( tschech. " the Inspiring ", this from the Latin Furians, " inspiring, furious " ) is a rapid Bohemian folk dance, which is similar to the Zwiefache characterized by a clock transition between 2/4- and 3/4-time. In the Czech art music, he is usually in three-quarter time with typical hemiolas (accent shifts ), as Smetana and Dvořák. For the first time Furiant Daniel Gottlob Türk is treated in piano school in 1789 and designated as " Fury ".

Well-known examples from the art music of the 19th century are the Furiant from Smetana's opera The Bartered Bride, and several compositions by Dvořák, including the first and last sentence of the Slavonic Dances, Op 46, the third sentence of the 6th Symphony in D major with the set names " Scherzo, Furiant, Presto ," the final movement from the Czech Suite, Op 39, and two piano pieces op 42, called " two Furianten ". Even the composer Enjott Schneider wrote in 1999 " Furiant ( for small orchestra ) ."
