Fürstenberg (Baar)

Old engraving of the prince mountain, early 19th century

The Furstenberg is a 918.2 -meter-high mountain to witness the Baar in Baden- Württemberg. It is perched above the village of Huefingen Fürstenberg, as the front of the mountain " length", which in turn belongs to the Jura Baar between Swabian Alb and the Black Forest or beetroot and Swiss Jura. The name of the mountain ( and also the noble family ) is thus derived not from the later Prince of Fürstenberg, but on this " fürdersten mountain".

History

Originally was the ancestral castle of the Counts of Fürstenberg, the castle Furstenberg, on the hilltop. The noble family is a branch of the Counts of Urach. Count Heinrich I of Urach put mid-13th century based on the Fürstenberg and changed his name after the mountain "Graf von Furstenberg ." There were many rebels during the Peasants' War also under the Fürstenberger citizens, the Prince of Fürstenberg left the mountain again. On the hilltop of the Prince mountain there was a city that was probably triggered the morning of July 18, 1841 due to flying sparks and burnt down completely by strong gusty winds fanned the fire and rebuilt on the foothills.

Length lock

Build on the extending eastward plateau, the length was 1766-1768 Prince Joseph Wenzel Von Furstenberg a hunting lodge, designed by FJSalzmann, the castle length. It was in 1840 sold for demolition, is now nothing more to see.

Current situation

Today, there are next to the cemetery remains and wall trenches of the former castle town a built 1964 open stepped gables Chapel ( formal reference to traditional farmhouses in the Baar ) in honor of the Curia Cardinal Augustin Bea, who hails from nearby Riedböhringen.

The promising summit plateau ( with a view of Baar, Black Forest and Swiss Alps) is a popular hiking destination and starting point for hang gliders and paragliders.

Since the summer of 2012, a historical trail leads around the crest of the Prince mountain. Many boards provide information on geology, botany and colonization of the mountain.
