Fusafungine

Fusafungine is an antibiotic from the fungus Fusarium lateritium (WR strain 437) or other Fusarium species is recovered and is used to treat infections of the upper respiratory tract. It is ( topical) applied locally in the form of Dosiersprays ( aerosols ).

Properties

Chemically, it involves a peptide ionophore antibiotic that is a mixture of enniatin A, B, C, and possibly other components. Enniatins are cyclic depsipeptides in the annular backbone peptide bond R -CO -NH -R ' with the ester bond R -CO- O-R' alternates three times ( cyclohexadepsipeptides, CHDPs ).

Fusafungine is a solid which melts at 125-129 ° C. It is almost insoluble in water but soluble in glycols and fats.

Effect

Fusafungine is effective against various gram-positive and gram -negative organisms and Candida albicans. It is bacteriostatic and bacteriocidal. It also has its own anti-inflammatory effect component.
