Fyodor Cherenkov

Fyodor Fyodorovich Cherenkov (Russian Фёдор Фёдорович Черенков; born July 25, 1959 in Moscow ) is a retired Soviet football player and current football coach.

Cherenkov went through since 1971, the football school of Spartak Moscow and was 1977-1990 regular players of the first team. He won by Spartak three times (1979, 1987 and 1989) as well as the Soviet Championship in 1987 and the Soviet Cup. 1983 and 1989 he was elected to the Soviet Footballer of the Year.

In 1990 Cherenkov went for a season to France to Red Star Paris, where, however, he could not prevail. He returned again in 1991 to Russia and played back again for Spartak Moscow. He was with his team of Russian champion in 1993. In a total of 398 league appearances for Spartak, he scored 95 goals.

Cherenkov was in the 1980s captain and leading players of Spartak Moscow. The midfielder and excellent technician was and is very popular with the supporters of the team. Despite his success with the club team, he never participated with the national team in a World Cup or European Championship. Overall, he came to 34 games for the Soviet national team in which he scored 12 goals. He won at the Olympics in 1980 with the Soviet team the bronze medal.

After his active career as a footballer Cherenkov is since 1994 active in the coaching staff of Spartak Moscow and plays regularly in veteran teams in this association.
