Gábor Gellér

Gábor Gellér (* September 13 1958 in Budakeszi ) is a former Swedish ski jumper.

Career

Gellér is one of the most famous Hungarian sportsmen and families began as be 14 years older brother László Gellér early ski jumping at Budakeszi Petőfi SC and quickly reached initial success in junior competitions. After the change to the professionals of the Honved he won in 1977 for the first time both national singles title of the normal and large hill and with the team on the large hill. The following year he won the title in the team competition the normal hill. His first international competition was also well be the most successful. In the Four Hills Tournament 1978/79 he landed in Oberstdorf on the Schattenbergschanze to rank 52 before he jumped on the 50th place in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. It was followed by a 55th place on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck and a 66th place in Bischofshofen. The tour he finished with 560.8 points at the 51st place in the tour - Appreciation.

After another three national titles in 1979 he gave his debut in December 1979 in the Ski Jumping World Cup in the Four Hills Tournament 1979 /80. However, not quite able to jump into the world top. The lack of a ski jumping World Cup teams in Hungary remained until his career end the launches at the Four Hills Tournament, the only international tournaments.

1980 improved Gellér the Hungarian distance record on 139 meters. This record is still valid today, since no Ungar is further jump in international jumping.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld in Tirol Gellér competed in two individual disciplines. He reached in jumping on the normal hill and 38th on the large hill Rank 53

After he did not reach success in the Four Hills Tournament and 1989, he finished after the tour 1988/89 its active Skispringerlaufbahn. His last national title was at this time also, two years back. In 1989, he took only once bronze.
