Gabriel Bertrand

Gabriel Emile Bertrand ( born May 17, 1867 in Paris, † June 20, 1962 ) was a French biochemist.

Bertrand grew up in Paris, where in 1886 he took off the Baccalauréat. In 1894 he received at the École de Pharmacie his degree in pharmacy. In 1900 he was an employee of the biochemical department at the Pasteur Institute and the Faculty of Science of the University of Paris. He received his doctorate in 1904. According to the April 22, 1915, he conducted research as a scientific advisor (as a member of the Inspection des études et expériences chimiques, IEEC ) of the French Ministry of War to chemical weapons.

He set the course of his later research emphasized the importance of diastases and trace elements for the metabolism of the cell. He also examined the Venin some snake species in cooperation with Césaire Phisalix.

He died on 20 June 1962 at the Institut Pasteur. There, a wing of the building Duclaux is named after him.
