Gabriel Marie Joseph, comte d'Hédouville

Gabriel de Hédouville, actually Gabriel Marie Théodore Joseph de Hédouville ( born July 27, 1755 in Laon, † March 30, 1825 in Brétigny -sur -Orge ) was a French general of division of cavalry and politicians.

Life

Hédouville came from an old military family; his father fought for King Louis XV. inter alia, in Flanders. Early Hédouville came as a cadet at the Military School Collège Henri IV de La Fleche. He soon saw him excel and was for some time at Queen Mary Page Leszczyńska.

In 1769 he came to the École Militaire in Paris. After a short time he was further promoted and the cannonade of Valmy (20 September 1792) he was able to experience in the General Staff.

Under General Jean -Baptiste Annibal Aubert du Bayet Hédouville led his own command and helped to put down the uprising in the Vendée.

As General Charles Leclerc d' Ostin an invading army put together to fight in Saint- Domingue ( Hispaniola ) the rebels under the leadership of Toussaint Louverture (→ Haitian Revolution ), he joined this as a volunteer.

Commissioned by Napoleon Hédouville traveled on a diplomatic mission to Saint Petersburg; a task that took him over two years at the court of Tsar Alexander I of Russia.

On February 1, 1804 Napoleon Hédouville appointed a senator and he held this office until the abdication of the Emperor (→ Treaty of Fontainebleau ) holds. At the same time he was also appointed chamberlain of the emperor.

When Napoleon in 1815 left the island of Elba and the " rule of the Hundred Days " began Hédouville retained his seat in the Chamber of Deputies. As a peer of France was a member of the jury, which ruled on Marshal Michel Ney; Hédouville spoke here from a death sentence.

A few weeks before his 70th birthday died Gabriel de Hédouville on March 30, 1825 Brétigny -sur -Orge. Hédouvilles years of opponent, Comte de Bourmont, said on 10 June that year, a poignant eulogy to him.
