Gabriele Lavia

Gabriele Lavia ( born October 10, 1942 in Milan ) is an Italian film director, playwright and actor. Lavia is one of the most important theater directors in Italy over the last forty years.

Life and work

Lavia studied drama and theater at the L' Accademia Nazionale d' Arte Drammatica in Rome. After graduating in 1963, he worked with several Italian directors such as Giancarlo Sbragia, Luigi Squarzina, Giorgio Strehler and Mario Missiroli.

Lavia has directed several films. His films Scandalosa Gilda, Sensi (both with girlfriend Monica Guerritore in the lead role ) and La lupa are particularly influenced by the work of Rainer Werner Fassbinder. However, Lavia has also contributed to less demanding productions. So he has with Dario Argento 's movies Rosso - color of death, and with Pupi Avati Suspiria the movie cedar - Because dead return made ​​again.

His debut as a theater actor, he celebrated in 1975 with the play Othello by William Shakespeare.
