Gabriele Rossetti

Gabriele Pasquale Giuseppe Rossetti ( born February 28, 1783 in Vasto, Province of Chieti, Abruzzo, Italy, † April 24, 1854 in London) was an Italian poet and scholar. His father acted with iron goods in Vasto d' Ammone.

Life

His house in Charlotte Street was the first port of call for many years for Italian refugees. 1831 Rossetti was appointed Professor of Italian Language and Literature at King's College in London. 1843 Gabriele was blind in one eye and there was a danger that the other eye may be affected - but fortunately he was not entirely deprived of his eyesight.
