Gacka

The Gacka [ ɡa TSKA ː ] is a river in the Lika- Senj in Croatia, on the edge of the National Park Plitvice Lakes. The river is regarded as well-known trout waters.

Course

The Gacka is a pharyngeal river flowing curvaceous from the source to the southeast for a distance of 11 km through the Gacka level between the Velebit mountain and the Mala Kapela. It rises in the southeastern part of the karst field of Gacka (Croatian Gacko polje ) 457 meters above sea level in a canyon in the hinterland of the Velebit massif near Tonković vrilo (German Tonković source). After that hydropower is already used in the operation of several water mills in Sinac. In its upper reaches it is of several tributaries ( Knjapovac, Begovac and Malinišće ) amplified and then meanders through the Gacka level and through the city Otočac to the northwest. The main inlets downstream are the Sinačka pučina and Kostelka.

Containment

From her original course of the river only eleven kilometers from Sinac have remained Vivoze. Then the river flows in channels and is passed through a tunnel into a lake after Gusić Polje, where he again through a tunnel. Turbines in Sv Juraj drives and then ends in the sea.

Age History

Previously ran the Gacka in its southern tributary after Švica, first in Lake Superior ( Gornje lakes Švica Jezero ), and finally in a waterfall in the Lower Lake ( Jezero lakes Švica Donje ) to overthrow. Then they ran through Kompolje and dried up in Croatian Polje.

Fishing

The Gacka is known among anglers for its large brown trout. There are also rainbow trout and grayling, carp, eel and chub. The brook trout is growing times faster than in many other rivers in the karst areas, including in particular the optimal water temperature contribute with only small oscillations, the oxygen content and the slightly alkaline water chemistry in the Gacka four to five. The fishing season runs from early April to late September. The year-round fishing is around 1000-1200 kg of fish from the source to the Orisković bridge in Prozor and 450 kg of the Orisković bridge to Vivoze. The Gacka is natural breeding area in their entire run. In addition, the river is enriched every year with young trout.
