Gaiserwald

Gaiserwaldstrasse is a municipality in the north of the Swiss canton of St. Gallen.

It consists of the villages Abtwil, Castel Sant'Angelo and St. Josefen. The Town Hall is in Abtwil and each village has its own zip code. The municipality counts some 8,000 inhabitants Gaiserwaldstrasse and each village has a church.

History

1200 Abtwil Appowila was first mentioned in records in 1282 and is a " Petrus de Gaiser Walt " mentioned. This name has spread to this day about the municipality. The congregation consisted only of scattered farms and hamlets, they had long no church. This changed in 1661, as was inaugurated in St. Josefen the first church by the abbot of St. Gallen. The patron saint was St. Joseph and so the village got its name. For a long time St. Josefen center of the civil and ecclesiastical life of the community Gaiserwaldstrasse.

1775 a new church was built in Castel Sant'Angelo, which was dedicated to the three guardian angels - hence the name.
