Gajim

Gajim [ gɛʒɪm ] is a free instant messaging client ( formerly known as Jabber ) for the XMPP protocol. The platform-independent software has been ported to Linux, BSD and Windows, is written in Python and uses GTK for the surface.

The name Gajim is a recursive acronym for " Gajim 's a jabber instant messenger ". He is not to be confused with the former multi- protocol client Pidgin Gaim.

Focus

The developers follow a powerful yet easy to use XMPP client, primarily for GTK based window manager. Here GNOME is not necessarily required. The wide range of functions is reflected among other things in the XML Console software with which all transmitted data packets can be considered.

Other protocols

Since many XMPP servers provide so-called transports to other instant messaging networks, Gajim also indirectly supports Y! M, AIM, ICQ and MSN. Other protocols such as RSS and ATOM news services, sending SMS messages in mobile phone networks or weather forecasts are also accessible through the gateway server.
