Galatasaray Men's Water Polo Team

The water polo team Galatasaray Istanbul was first played in the 1910s by Galatasaray students and thereby also for the first time introduced in Turkey. On the Kurucesme Island Water Polo became the match and training grounds, a swimming pool was opened in 1968 Calamis where purchased from now on, all water sports of the association located.

In the Turkish Water Polo League, which has been around since the 1950s, one in 1955 and 1957, twice, after long years in the 1970s, 73,75 and 77 times champion. Until 1991 there was a 14 - year break.

1988, the Hungarian Zoltan Gulyas became a coach, who laid on the young players especially value, and the level significantly increased, so that soon came forth and Olympic athletes. The A-Team of the men was 12 times champion since 1991 and also reached considerable rankings in the European competitions.

In this period also increased the performance of the national team, both in the European, as well as the Balkan Championships. In recent years, they managed to Galatasaray player repeatedly in the top 16 of Europe's top teams, even if there had been at the beginning of the " European adventure " partly tough defeats. At the moment the team between the 9th and 12th place is in the European championship.

In the 2007 /08 season the team was unbeaten Turkish masters. It was the 14th championship in club history.

Venue

Galatasaray wearing their home games at the Galatasaray Olimpik yüzme havuzu ( Galatasaray Olympic Swimming Pool ) from Üsküdar. The swimming pool is asking space for 543 spectators. Prior to the opening on 16 September 2006, the swimming pool was a public bathhouse.
