Galdogob

Galdogob or Goldogob is a small town in the Mudug region in central Somalia, situated between Gaalkacyo and the border with Ethiopia's Somali region. It is the capital of the district Galdogob.

History

1982 came Galdogob at a military offensive of Ethiopia and the rebel Somali Salvation Democratic Front ( SSDF ) against the authoritarian government of Somalia Siad Barre under the control of the SSDF.

Population

Galdogob had the end of 2002 approximately 20,000-30,000 inhabitants - city dwellers and nomads - and also enjoyed strong growth. 25-35 % of the urban population were impoverished rancher who had gone as a result of drought 1998/1999 in the city; of 1250 households surveyed 70 % had come to the city since 2000, the most common reason for the move was ( 66.3 % of respondents), the uncertainty in other areas ( see Somali Civil War ).

Throughout the district were about 5 % of the population and 95% of city dwellers nomads who were economically closely linked to the Haud area.

Economy

Most residents were dependent for food and income from the livestock industry. An estimated 30 % of the residents of Galdogob were dependent on casual work and had no regular source of income.

The water supply of Galdogob and surrounding villages is done through two holes in the center of the city that had been drilled in the 1960s by the then Water Development Agency, as well as by seasonal berkads. Renovated in 2002, UNICEF, the two drill holes.
