Gambian pound
The pound was the currency in the British colony of Gambia 1907-1971. Gambia until 1966, used the West African pound, before it brought out its own currency. In 1971 the Gambian pound was replaced by the Dalasi with an exchange rate to 1 pound = 5 Dalasi, that is 1 Dalasi = 4 shillings.
All coins have the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the front.
The 8- shilling coin of Gambia is the only example of this motif, which was coined. With the exception of hippopotamus the back designs of pre- decimal coins were used to Gambia decimal coins again.

Each note had a sailboat with a forest as a background on the front.
