Gamma Aquilae

3000 L ☉

Tarazed (also Tarazad, Tarazet, Reda ) is the name given to the star γ Aquilae (Gamma Aquilae ). The name is Persian and means " balance beam ". Tarazed has an apparent magnitude of 2.72 mag and is about 460 light years from the Sun. ( Hipparcos database). He is a bright orange giant of spectral type K3 and is in that stage of stellar evolution, in which he burns at its core helium into carbon. Its radius is calculated from its (again from apparent magnitude and distance determined) luminosity of about 3000 solar luminosities to enormous 110 solar radii or 0.5 AU. Thus, it is large enough that its angular diameter can be measured directly to 0.0075 arcseconds, resulting in calculated together with its distance, a similar value for its physical diameter as the above mentioned. Tarazed is also an X-ray source.
