Gamma Pegasi

Algenib ( from Arabic الجانب, DMG al - ğānib, the edge ", " the site ") is the name of the star γ Pegasi is (Gamma Pegasi ). Algenib marks the southeast corner of the Pegasus square. Together with its northern neighbor star Sirrah it marks approximately the " zero meridian " of the sky, the meridian with the right ascension coordinate value = zero.

Algenib is a variable star of type β Cephei. Its brightness varies with a period of 0.1575 days, 2.78 to 2.89 mag.

Algenib is 392 light years away and belongs to the spectral class B2.
